Bb:ARR has combined forces with the producers of the documentary film in progress “No Coloreds in

Oakland

” and Dr. Joy Leary to explore/expose the origin of violence in

Oakland

.  As a fund raiser for the production of the film, Psychologist Dr. Joy Leary of

Portland

State

University

will give the keynote address, "Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome."  This event is expected to draw 350 attendees who will be treated to a teaser of the film and a book giveaway.

Bb:ARR welcomes you to mindfully engage about culture, race relations, education, current events and other matters impacting the collective consciousness in

Oakland

and beyond.

Entertainment Journalist Kam Williams described Leary's book, Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome this way, "nothing short of brilliant in the way in which she approaches the subject, prodding you to place present-day behaviors in a proper historical context." Leary she has developed a culturally based education model for working with children and adults of color. She recently created the “African American Male Adolescent Respect Scale”, an assessment instrument designed to broaden our understanding of the challenges facing these youth in an effort to prevent their over-representation in the justice system, and to improve education achievement." The book has been praised by Bill Cosby, Randall Robinson, Al Sharpton, and many more. Adelaide Sanford, Vice Chancellor of the Board of Regents for the State of New York states that “Dr. Joy Leary’s mesmerizing, riveting book is vital reading for our time…With Dr. Leary’s potent words we can and will heal.”

Sociopolitical Critic, Public Speaker, and Founder of Quack Quack Productions, Charles Reynolds, is producing the documentary, “No Coloreds in

Oakland

.” The film explores the origins of escalating homicide rates in the city of

Oakland

. Matters such as gun availability and legal and illegal drug proliferation are objectively juxtaposed to sociological structures such as the educational system, labor and finance, the prison industrial complex, and the meat industry. Local stories from criminals, prosecutors, victims, families of victims, educators, butchers, doctors, and social workers such as Joy Leary.

"This film is not an elaborate excusatory game of pin the blame on the white man. This film is meant to spawn a movement of black empowerment and inner-city unification that ever churns toward the main objectives of self sufficiency, ownership, and intellectual mobility via black and other communicative networks.” Charles said.
